Mrs. Wheat’s is a proud locally owned family business. Our mission is to produce & share quality food products that create enjoyable experiences for people of all ages.
Our story starts with Mrs. Helen Wheat. She was from the small town of Natchitoches, La. She was the best at making Meat Pies. Her recipes can still be found in local Natchitoches gift shops. In 1979 her son, Jim Wheat, opened the restaurant known as Wheaty’s in Metairie, La. The next few years Mrs. Wheat’s introduced our “Natchitoches Meat Pies” & “Crawfish Pies” to the New Orleans area. In 1984 we began The Worlds Fair, soon after the demand of meat pies exceeded the restaurant’s capability.
In 1985 Jim opened the doors to a new USDA and FDA approved manufacturing facility in the City of New Orleans. Our pies soon became a fan favorite at local festivals such as The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and The French Quarter Festival. Now days Jim Wheat is in the process of transitioning to the future with son Bryant and daughter April. Team Wheat is working diligently to establish Mrs. Wheat’s Foods as a national food manufacturing company.
